God is the author of all life, and He created mankind, unlike animals, in His image. "So God created man in His own image, in the image and likeness of God He created him; male and female He created them." Genesis 1:27

Because of sin, ALL people fall short of God's expectations. We are all on even ground before God. "… all have sinned and are falling short of the honor and glory which God bestows and receives." Romans 3:23

We can't do something that makes us acceptable to God, but God made a way for us to be saved anyway because He loves us so much. "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life." John 3:16
